Telegram ended 2024 with a net profit of $540 million, a sharp turnaround from a $173 million loss the previous year. Revenue quadrupled to $1.4 billion, according to investor materials cited by the Financial Times.

This financial milestone comes even as Telegram and Pavel Durov face legal pressure in France. Durov is under investigation for allegedly failing to prevent the spread of illegal content on the platform, including violent material and child abuse imagery. Despite this, Telegram is preparing a $1.5 billion bond sale to refinance existing debt. Investors are being offered stock options at a 20% discount in the event of a future IPO.

  • Around half of Telegram’s 2024 revenue came from its “ecosystem and partnerships” segment — including mini apps developed within the platform and Toncoin-based crypto transactions.
  • Advertising brought in $250 million.
  • Telegram Premium subscriptions generated $292 million.

The company expects to hit $2 billion in revenue and $720 million in profit in 2025.

Telegram also confirmed a partnership with Elon Musk’s xAI. The messaging app has integrated the Grok chatbot and plans to promote it within the app, sharing revenue with Musk’s team. This marks Grok’s first official rollout outside of X.
