Norwegian startup 1X Technologies has unveiled Neo Gamma, a home assistant robot designed to tackle household chores with a human-like presence.
Unlike Tesla, Boston Dynamics, and Figure, which prioritize robots for warehouses and factories, 1X is taking a home-first approach—testing Neo Gamma in a mock home environment to refine its ability to vacuum floors, load dishes, and even brew tea. And when it's time to recharge? The robot simply sits on the couch like the rest of us.
The biggest upgrade? AI. Neo Gamma is equipped with a custom-built large language model (LLM) that allows for natural conversation and body language interactions. It doesn't just talk—it can gesture, react, and even “express emotions” through LED-lit ear rings.
On the hardware side, Neo Gamma moves with human-like fluidity, capable of walking, squatting, sitting, and picking up objects thanks to a multi-purpose controller running at 100Hz, trained on real human motion data. Its visual manipulation system enables it to recognize and interact with objects—even in unfamiliar settings.
The design is optimized for home use: a soft nylon exterior reduces collision risks, while four microphones and three speakers ensure clear communication—plus 360-degree surround sound for added functionality.
1X Technologies is still testing Neo Gamma, with no official word on how many units will be produced. As for the price? Estimates vary—some reports suggest $30,000, while others go as high as $70,000. Whether it’s worth it probably depends on how well it folds laundry and makes coffee.
