Mojang, the studio that develops Minecraft, has published guidelines regarding non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain in the game.
Integrations of NFTs with Minecraft are generally not something we will support or allow.
Game developers say: "the speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering." NFTs, according to the studio, go against the basics of Minecraft: all content should be available to all players, and non-fungible tokens are distributed on the principle of exclusivity. On top of that, NFTs are often used for fraud and speculation, from which the game's authors want to protect its users.
So, Mojang has banned blockchain technology integration into the Minecraft client and server applications, as well as its use to create NFTs from any in-game content, including worlds, skins and so on. However, Mojang will keep an eye on the development of the technology and whether it will be consistent with the principles of the game.
We will also be paying close attention to how blockchain technology evolves over time to ensure that the above principles are withheld and determine whether it will allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming.
