A new post on Weibo by well-known insider Instant Digital sheds light on what Apple’s first foldable iPhone, tentatively referred to as the iPhone Fold, could look like.

According to the leak, the device may replace the Dynamic Island with a smaller punch-hole cutout, relocate its volume controls, and feature a fully black rear camera module.

Reported design and hardware changes

Based on information attributed to Instant Digital:

  • The power button and volume keys would be positioned on the right edge of the device. The left side would reportedly remain clean, with no buttons.
  • Face ID may be removed in favor of Touch ID integrated into the power button. Instead of a Dynamic Island, the device would feature a circular front camera cutout.

Reports of Apple testing a foldable prototype without Face ID first surfaced in December:

Rumor: Apple’s foldable iPhone may drop Face ID in favor of Touch ID in the power button
Apple’s first foldable smartphone may lose one of the iPhone’s core features: Face ID.
  • The rear camera system is expected to resemble the design language of the iPhone Air, but with two horizontally aligned cameras instead of one. This detail was previously mentioned by another leaker, Digital Chat Station.
  • The camera module would also include a microphone and flash. Unlike the iPhone Air, the camera bump would reportedly remain fully black rather than matching the color of the device.
  • Early information suggests the foldable iPhone could launch in white, with at least one additional color option available at release.

Additional details indicate that the motherboard may be positioned on the right side of the device, allowing for more efficient internal space management by avoiding cable routing across the chassis.

Digital Chat Station previously reported that the main flexible display could measure 7.58 inches, with a 5.25-inch outer screen. The design is said to follow a wider, book-style format, closer to the Pixel Fold or OPPO Find N than the Galaxy Z Fold.

Separately, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this month that Apple is also considering a clamshell-style iPhone Flip, potentially competing with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. It remains unclear whether such a model will ultimately reach the market:
