Apple has officially commented on reports of scratches seen on iPhone 17 Pro demo units in its retail stores, 9to5Mac reports.
According to the company, the scuffed appearance of the new devices is indeed linked to worn MagSafe stands. Users had already speculated this might be the cause.
Apple clarified that these marks aren’t actual scratches but residue from the stands themselves, which can be removed with a basic cleaning.
The company promised to replace the worn stands across its stores. It also confirmed that the issue isn’t limited to the latest iPhone 17 Pro and Air, but has also affected previous models like the iPhone 16.
Separately, Apple acknowledged that the raised camera plateau is susceptible to minor edge scratches. This is considered normal wear for an aluminum frame.
Despite these quirks, Apple stressed that the new iPhones delivered impressive results in durability tests. Ceramic Shield 2, featured across all four new models, is significantly more resistant to scratches than in earlier generations.
