Users of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are reporting overheating issues when using Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji and Image Playground on the new iOS 18.2 update. According to Android Headlines, which cites discussions on Reddit, the problem appears to be isolated to generative AI functions.

Interestingly, iPhone 16 users, equipped with the newer A18 chips, aren’t facing similar problems. The entire iPhone 16 lineup benefits from more efficient and powerful processors compared to the A17 Pro chips found in the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and the new iPad mini.

Experts suggest that the overheating may be due to the on-device nature of Apple Intelligence processing, designed to maximize user privacy. However, it seems that features like Genmoji and Image Playground are not yet fully optimized for the A17 Pro chip.

In addition to overheating, users are reporting reduced battery life after updating to iOS 18.2. So far, Apple has not commented on these complaints, but fixes are expected in future updates.
