StockApps.com conducted a study of five major technology companies, namely Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google and Twitter. It found that Google collects 3 times more personal data than Apple.

According to the report, Apple 'is the most privacy-conscious firm out there', avoiding tracking data that goes beyond its services.

Apple only stores the information that is necessary to maintain users' accounts. This is because their website is not as reliant on advertising revenue as are Google, Twitter, and Facebook.

The company also previously introduced an app tracking feature specifically to protect user privacy from other companies.

The report says the data includes location information, browser history, and activity on third-party sites. However, the report does not provide exact "data points". In addition, the study does not describe the methodology, but says that digitalinformationworld, a marketing company, was used to research Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google and Twitter.

Among the five companies - Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and Twitter - Google collects the most data, tracking 39 separate types of data per user, while Apple collects only 12. Facebook, on the other hand, tracks only 14 types of data, compared to 23 for Amazon and 24 for Twitter.

According to Edith Reads of StockApps.com:

Most people don't have the time or patience to read the privacy policy, which can take several pages for each site they visit. As a result, users allow Google to collect all the data they need by agreeing to the terms of the privacy policy.
