Dubai is taking another step toward sustainable and autonomous mobility with the introduction of the Rail Bus, a fully 3D-printed, solar-powered transport system designed to redefine urban commuting.
Announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) at the World Government Summit 2025, the innovative vehicle is part of the emirate’s broader efforts to establish itself as a global leader in smart transportation.
The Rail Bus features a sleek black-and-gold exterior with a modern, minimalist interior design. Each carriage is 11.5 meters long, 2.65 meters wide, and 2.9 meters high, with seating for 22 passengers and a total capacity of 40. With an operational speed of up to 100 km/h, the vehicle offers a fast and efficient transport alternative while prioritizing accessibility with designated spaces for passengers with disabilities.
A key highlight of the Rail Bus is its commitment to sustainability. Made entirely from recyclable materials using 3D-printing technology, the system is fully powered by solar energy, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The vehicle operates autonomously, aligning with Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy 2030, which aims to make 25% of all city trips autonomous by the end of the decade.
The introduction of the Rail Bus directly supports the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy and Dubai’s Zero-Emissions Public Transport Strategy 2050. The RTA has yet to announce an official launch date.
