Saudi Arabian drone photography company Ot Sky has filmed the start of work on The Line, a mega-city being built as part of the Neom project in north-west Saudi Arabia.

The video shows numerous excavators digging a wide linear trench in the desert, inside which the foundations for the city, planned to be 170 kilometres long, are to be built.

It is also possible that work is now underway to prepare for an underground transport system, which is planned to run under the entire length of the city.

Previously, Saudi Arabia announced plans for a new zero-carbon city, the Line, which would consist of two buildings 500 metres high and run parallel to each other across 170 kilometres of desert. It will be 200 metres wide.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said "The Line" will embody "Zero Gravity Urbanism". It will allow residents to move seamlessly in three dimensions - up, down or across.
