Conor McGregor has entered the controversy surrounding Khabib Nurmagomedov’s exclusive collectible Telegram gifts.
The Irish fighter condemned Khabib for using his late father’s name and Dagestan’s cultural heritage to promote digital gifts. His comments came after news emerged that Nurmagomedov had deleted social media posts announcing the Telegram gift auction:
"There is just no way good guy khabib used his late fathers name, as well as Dagestan’s culture, to scam his fans and fire sell a bunch of digital NFT’s online and then delete all of the content after they were sold, leaving his fans robbed of their money?"
He added that “there is just no way good guy do this.” In a separate post, McGregor called the situation a “shame” and argued that deceiving fans by invoking one’s father and cultural identity was incredibly low.
In his response to McGregor’s comments, Khabib called him an “absolute liar” who “will always try to tarnish my name” after losing in the Octagon:
They don’t create exclusive digital gifts with real time value, that you can share with your friends and family. Gifts in the shape of Papakha - hat that symbolize traditions and culture of Dagestan people. Traditions and culture that slowly walking over this world, whether you like it or not!
Nurmagomedov also said that Telegram is “the greatest messaging platform in the world.” After removing the auction announcements from his social media profiles, he separately thanked all participants of the sale.
Earlier, on November 26, Durov’s Code reported that posts promoting Nurmagomedov’s exclusive Telegram gift collection had disappeared from his accounts. Prior to that, the fighter faced backlash online over certain papakha designs and their high auction prices.
