ChatGPT was the most downloaded app in March, with Telegram also ranking in the global top 10.
According to new data from Appfigures, ChatGPT topped the download charts across both the App Store and Google Play, with over 46 million installs — 13 million from the App Store and 33 million from Google Play. That puts OpenAI’s app ahead of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, all owned by Meta.
Interestingly, Instagram didn’t make the App Store’s top 10 but was downloaded 41 million times on Google Play. The report also notes a strong skew toward Android downloads.
Telegram secured the #9 spot on the App Store (6 million downloads) and #8 on Google Play (20 million), bringing its total to 26 million and placing it eighth overall across platforms.
Altogether, the top 10 apps in March saw over 339 million downloads — more than February, but slightly behind March 2024.
