Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, has rolled out a new subscription tier called Max, priced at up to $200 per month — despite continuing to limit usage even at that premium level.

The new plan is part of a broader effort to test the upper bounds of what users are willing to pay for access to advanced AI tools.

The $100/month Max plan allows users to send 5x more prompts than the current $18/month Pro tier. For $200/month, the limit jumps to 20x. According to Anthropic, Pro users can currently send about 45 messages every five hours — making the usage caps on the new plans significant despite the high price.

Unlike OpenAI, which offers unlimited access to its top-tier models at the same price point, Anthropic still restricts the number of prompts. However, Max subscribers get priority access during peak hours, longer responses, and early access to upcoming features and models.

Like many AI firms, Anthropic is trying to recoup development costs by offering premium subscriptions to both individuals and businesses. The Max tier is a move to gauge how much users are willing to pay for enhanced AI capabilities.
