Bentley first introduced the hybrid version of the Bentayga SUV in 2019. This year, it unveils the Flying Spur - a full-size sedan paired with a W12 engine or a V8.
The power of Flying Spur Hybrid amounts to 536 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, enabling to rocket from 0 to 60 mph (ca. 97 km/h) in 4.1 seconds, which is only a tenth of a second slower than the V8.
In comparison, the W12 Flying Spur’s engine efficiency is 626 horsepower. It allows sprinting to 60 mph (ca. 97 km/h) in 3.7 seconds. It can also achieve a velocity of 207 mph (ca. 333 km/h), compared to the 542-horsepower V8, which can speed up to 198 mph (ca. 319 km/h). The new hybrid is limited to 177 mph (ca. 285 km/h).
Moreover, innovations embrace an 18.0-kWh battery and a level 2 J1772 charging port, which can be charged in 150 minutes. It’s sufficient for about 21 miles (ca. 34 km) of all-electric voyage at nearest and gives the Flying Spur a 46 combined MPGe. The extra port and the “Hybrid” badging are the only things that set this Flying Spur apart.
There is also a hold mode to limit battery use. It will primarily utilise the conventional engine, but will activate the e-motor for extra boost and will be used as a default setting when in Sport driving mode. The battery enables its electric range to survive the distance of 21 miles (ca. 34km).
As for the cabin, the same techs can be found in the rest of the Flying Spur: a 12.3-inch digital touchscreen, an all-digital gauge cluster and a head-up display upgraded with additional graphics to monitor battery usage. What is pristine is Bentley’s inner design: soft leather seats, open pore wood accents, metal diamond-cut knurled knobs, etc.
The price is $210,000 including a charging unit, thus, the customers don’t need to visit the nearby charging station.
