The Information, citing sources familiar with Apple’s internal plans, has shared new insights into the future of the iPhone lineup.
According to the report, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max — expected in 2026 — will feature under-display Face ID technology. However, the devices will still include a small circular cutout in the upper-left corner of the screen for the front-facing camera. It remains unclear what will happen to the Dynamic Island.
Looking ahead to 2027, Apple is reportedly planning a major redesign for the anniversary iPhone 20, which will feature a true edge-to-edge display. Both the front camera and Face ID sensors are expected to be fully hidden under the screen. A dramatic redesign would align with Apple’s tendency to mark major milestones with bold changes.
The report also claims that Apple will revise its iPhone release schedule starting next year. Instead of launching all models simultaneously in the fall, Apple will delay the release of the standard iPhone 18 to spring 2027, while still unveiling the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Air, and its first foldable iPhone in fall 2026.
In spring 2027, the company will follow up with the standard iPhone 18 and a refreshed version of the iPhone 16e.
According to The Information, the staggered rollout is intended to simplify operations across a larger, six-device iPhone lineup. It would also allow Apple to ease pressure on its supply chain by reducing the number of workers it needs to bring on board at once.
