According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, this device, codenamed J490, will run on a new operating system called Pebble and is designed for seamless integration with smart home systems.
The tablet will measure 6 inches diagonally, with an almost square shape resembling two iPhones stacked together. With thick bezels around the display, the device will resemble a digital photo frame, displaying images and serving as a smart home display.
Apple plans to offer a docking station with enhanced speakers, allowing the tablet to sit comfortably on a desk or be mounted on a wall. This flexibility makes it ideal for placement in multiple rooms as a central part of the home ecosystem.
The Pebble OS is specifically optimized for this tablet, featuring customizable widgets and an adaptive interface. Built-in sensors will detect a user’s proximity, transforming the display from a passive screensaver to an interactive interface when approached.
Voice commands will be processed through Apple Intelligence, enabling users to operate the tablet hands-free, while still retaining a touch interface for traditional control. Initial setup will be managed via iPhone, and the device will support further interaction with Apple’s smartphone lineup for a fully integrated experience.
