Apple is reportedly working on a real-time conversation translation feature for AirPods, according to Mark Gurman.

The update is expected to be released alongside iOS 19 in late 2025. As described by Gurman, the feature will allow two people speaking different languages—say, English and Spanish—to hear each other’s speech translated in real time through their AirPods. English speech will be translated into Spanish and vice versa, creating a seamless conversation without language barriers.

Gurman described the feature as offering “a Star Trek-like experience” [a reference to the universal translator, a device that instantly translates speech and allows Star Trek characters to communicate with other civilizations—ed.].

The AirPods update is part of Apple’s broader software overhaul this year, which includes the biggest iOS redesign in years and a refreshed macOS interface.
