In a statement to Reuters, Apple said it had been absorbing higher component costs for as long as possible but could no longer avoid passing part of those increases on to customers. The company said it continues to look for ways to reduce costs despite the price increases.

Apple CEO Tim Cook warned about the move a week earlier, saying the company could no longer fully offset soaring memory prices. He linked the shortage to the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure, as memory manufacturers continue shifting production toward high-performance chips for AI servers.

The memory shortage has affected the broader consumer electronics industry in recent months, driving up costs for products ranging from smartphones and gaming consoles to digital cameras.
