Apple plans to launch a foldable iPad with an 18.8-inch display by 2028, according to insider Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg.
Gurman described the device as resembling a giant iPad that unfolds to the size of two iPad Pros placed side-by-side. Prototypes of the foldable iPad are reportedly already in development, featuring a nearly invisible crease at the fold.
However, Gurman noted that it's still uncertain whether Apple will be able to eliminate the crease entirely by the device’s launch. He cited Samsung as an example, which, despite five years in the foldable market, still hasn’t solved this visual flaw.
The foldable iPad is expected to run on iPadOS, though by 2028, Apple may adapt the system to support macOS applications, enhancing the device’s versatility.
Additionally, Gurman mentioned that a foldable iPhone is also in development, but its release is not expected before 2026. This signals Apple's clear intention to expand its foldable lineup and compete with other manufacturers in the foldable device market.
