Apple is set to release its first foldable iPhone in 2026, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The device will reportedly follow a book-style form factor, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, rather than the clamshell design of the Z Flip. That means the iPhone will fold horizontally, unfolding into a compact tablet.
Gurman added that Apple is leveraging engineering insights from the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air — expected later this year — which measures just 5.5 mm thick, making it the slimmest iPhone ever. Engineers had to overcome tight constraints to fit all essential components into such a compact frame, and those solutions are expected to help with the foldable model.
While the final specs are still under wraps, early estimates put the price at around $2,000. Due to manufacturing challenges, Apple is expected to release the foldable iPhone in limited quantities initially, targeting the premium segment to test demand before scaling up production.
