A group of British consumers has won a lawsuit against Apple over its App Store practices, Reuters reports.

The class action, representing around 20 million UK users, accused Apple of abusing its dominant market position and charging excessive 30% commissions to game and app developers on the App Store.

  • The court ruled that Apple abused its market dominance between October 2015 and the end of 2020.
  • It also found that the company restricted competition in app distribution.
  • Additionally, the court determined that Apple charged developers “excessive and unfair prices” in commissions.

Following the ruling, claimants are now entitled to seek compensation. Initially, the plaintiffs demanded £1.5 billion (about $2 billion).

Hearings to determine the final penalty for Apple are scheduled to begin in November.
