Apple has kicked off a major shake-up of the team behind Siri. The effort is now led by Mike Rockwell — the former head of Vision Pro — who has already begun replacing key figures and revamping internal processes.
Analysts see the move as a sign of Apple’s growing dissatisfaction with Siri, which has fallen behind amid the generative AI boom.
According to 9to5Mac, Rockwell plans to replace most of Siri’s former leadership with talent from his Vision Pro team. Ranjit Desai will now head platform and system architecture, Olivier Gutknecht will take over UI, while Nate Begeman and Tom Duffy will focus on the assistant’s core architecture.
Responsibilities are also expanding for Stuart Bowers, who’s tasked with improving query comprehension, and David Winarsky, who will lead efforts in speech recognition.
Siri’s team was recently given the green light to use third-party large language models (LLMs) — a strong signal that more advanced AI features could be on the horizon.
