According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a smart doorbell and lock equipped with Face ID functionality. This new addition will expand Apple’s smart home ecosystem, a project the company has been developing over recent years.

The smart doorbell will feature wireless connectivity and advanced facial recognition technology, enabling it to "recognize" residents and automatically unlock the door in conjunction with a compatible smart lock. The device is expected to work seamlessly with both Apple’s own locks and third-party solutions. Reports suggest Apple may collaborate with existing smart lock manufacturers to create integrated systems.

Previously, Bloomberg revealed that Apple is also preparing a 6-inch device for smart home management and exploring the potential development of home robots. Following the discontinuation of its self-driving car project, the company has shifted its focus to residential technology.

The smart doorbell and lock are still in the early stages of development, with a release not expected before late 2025.
