Apple’s chip development team is working on processors to power future devices, including the company’s first smart glasses, more powerful Mac computers, and AI servers, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The chip for the smart glasses will be based on the Apple Watch processors, which are more energy-efficient than those used in iPhones and Macs. It will support multiple cameras integrated into the glasses.
Mass production of the SoC is scheduled for late 2026 or 2027, indicating that the glasses could hit the market around two years later. The Taiwanese company TSMC will handle manufacturing.
Additionally, Apple plans to launch AirPods and Apple Watch models with integrated cameras by 2027. The components are codenamed Glennie (AirPods) and Nevis (Apple Watch).
For Macs, the next-generation chips are likely to be named M6 (codenamed Komodo) and M7 (codenamed Borneo). Apple is also developing a more advanced chip referred to as Sotra.
Apple is working on server processors to handle requests for Apple Intelligence remotely. Currently, Mac computer chips, including the M2 Ultra, are used for this purpose.
