Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the release, initially expected in 2025, may now be postponed to 2027. Kuo notes that Apple recognises a simple price reduction alone might not drive demand for the device, drawing comparisons to the HomePod, which didn’t see mass-market success even after the launch of the cheaper HomePod mini.
In lieu of a budget model, Kuo suggests that Apple’s only new AR headset in 2025 may be an upgraded Vision Pro, potentially equipped with the latest M5 processor.
Earlier reports from The Information indicated that Apple had considered a simplified Vision Pro priced around $1,600. Sources claimed that Apple informed at least one supplier of a pause in development on the next version of the headset, driven by low sales of the current model. Following these reports, speculation arose that Apple is exploring cost-saving measures for the Vision Pro, possibly requiring it to connect to an iPhone or Mac to function.
To lower costs, Apple may simplify the hardware, potentially moving from M-series SoCs to the A-series chips currently used in iPhones.
If Apple proceeds with these changes, the Vision Pro lineup could evolve into a more affordable, modular AR headset, relying on the power of connected Apple devices. For now, however, a lower-cost Vision Pro remains several years away.
