The updated version of Siri with AI capabilities — promised by Apple for the second year in a row — is now officially postponed until spring 2026.
This was reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. According to his sources, a full Siri overhaul is expected as part of iOS 26.4, which traditionally rolls out in March — though the exact timeline remains unconfirmed.
Apple initially announced plans for a major Siri redesign back in 2023, aiming to debut it alongside the iPhone 16. However, the timeline has shifted repeatedly: first to spring 2025 (iOS 18.4), then to version 18.5 — before the functionality was ultimately removed altogether. As of now, Apple is sticking to a vague “next year” promise, while Bloomberg reports rising tensions behind the scenes, with marketers and engineers blaming each other for the missed deadlines.
Key areas of focus include tighter integration with apps via the App Intents framework and deeper in-app control capabilities.
The delay has dealt a significant blow to Apple’s image as the company struggles to keep pace with rivals in the AI race. While many tech giants have already launched ChatGPT-style assistants, Apple has yet to deliver. According to reports, the company is even considering acquiring AI-focused startups to speed up development.
