Amazon is developing a new AI model under the Nova brand with advanced reasoning capabilities, aiming to compete with OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic by blending fast responses with multitasking intelligence.
According to Business Insider, Amazon's key goal is to lower operational costs, making its model more accessible compared to OpenAI’s o1, Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking. Nova’s non-reasoning models, available through Bedrock AI, are already 75% cheaper than their counterparts.
The AGI team, led by Rohit Prasad, is testing the model on external benchmarks like SWE, the Berkeley Function Calling Leaderboard, and AIME, which assess programming and mathematical reasoning skills.
Reasoning AI is becoming the industry standard despite its slower performance, as it enables complex problem-solvingthrough search methods and chain-of-thought processing. Amazon hasn't revealed further details, but Nova could launch as early as June.
