In a patent lawsuit with medical device maker Masimo, Apple secured a partial victory on Friday.
A federal jury ruled that Masimo’s W1 and Freedom smartwatches, as well as a health module and charger, infringed on two Apple patents. The verdict awarded Apple just $250, the statutory minimum damages, as the company stated it was “not here for the money,” according to Apple attorney John Desmarais.
The jury also found that Masimo’s infringement was willful. This case adds to a series of legal battles between the companies. Earlier this year, Apple ceased U.S. sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models with blood oxygen features following a separate ruling that it had infringed on Masimo’s pulse oximetry patents.
