Apple could bring a “mechanical aperture” camera to the iPhone 18 Pro, giving users more control over light and depth of field, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The feature is expected to debut on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, though Gurman says it may also come to the smaller Pro model. The system would allow the camera to physically adjust its aperture, changing how much light reaches the sensor and how much of a shot remains in focus.

Apple is also expected to improve battery life on this year’s Pro models and introduce a second-generation vapor chamber for more effective cooling.

Another change could come inside the phones. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is reportedly set to use Apple’s own C2 modem, despite earlier reports suggesting Qualcomm could return as a supplier.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9.
