OpenAI is reportedly planning to introduce a new logo as part of a rebranding effort, replacing its current hexagonal flower symbol with a simple black "O."

According to Fortune, employees found the new design to be devoid of creativity, with some even describing it as "ominous." The current logo, representing "precision, potential, and optimism," could soon give way to this simpler design as part of OpenAI’s rebranding effort.

The redesign is part of a broader effort that began a year ago, following the hiring of new creative team members, with the goal of creating a more distinct and proprietary visual identity. The rebranding coincides with OpenAI's shift away from its original non-profit corporate structure, as it prepares to operate more traditionally as a for-profit entity in 2024.

The company’s leaders, including CEO Sam Altman, may reconsider the rebranding after the negative internal feedback.
