Opera has announced plans to launch a new AI-powered browser, named Opera One, built on its own engine for iOS in Europe.

This move comes in response to Apple's compliance with the European Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will now allow alternative browser engines on iOS. Currently, Apple mandates third-party browsers to use WebKit, the same engine as Safari.

The DMA changes will enable developers to submit non-WebKit-based browsers. Opera intends to provide iPhone users with an AI-centric alternative to Safari, emphasizing its commitment to competition and user choice.

The new browser is set to debut in March 2024, coinciding with the implementation of DMA regulations in the European Union.
