Spotify seems to be getting closer to launching its "Superpremium" subscription service, which could be priced at $19.99 per month.
Recent discoveries in the Spotify app's code, made by researcher Chris Messina, reveal a flashy logo and an expanded list of features beyond the expected 24-bit lossless audio. This new premium tier may include AI-generated playlists, advanced mixing tools, extra hours of audiobook listening, and a personalized feature called "Your Sound Capsule."
While the rumors of Spotify's Superpremium tier have been circulating for a while, these recent code discoveries offer more concrete evidence. It appears that Superpremium users may be able to filter their music library by mood, activity, or genre, with additional options like vibe and beats per minute for more precise music curation. Moreover, this tier could offer 20-30 hours of audiobook listening, surpassing the 15 free hours included with the current Premium subscription.
One noteworthy change is the shift from "HiFi" to lossless audio, suggesting Spotify may reposition its premium audio offering to appeal to a broader audience. CEO Daniel Ek has hinted at using HiFi as a tool to increase prices in the future, focusing on a wider user base.
Messina also spotted references to a feature called "Your Sound Capsule," which might be related to Spotify's "playlist in a bottle" concept, offering a unique musical time capsule experience. Additionally, there are hints of a Last.fm-like listening stats feature called "Highlights."
Spotify has not officially confirmed the data, saying it does not comment on speculation about new features. However, these discoveries indicate that Spotify is actively developing the Superpremium service and could launch it in the near future.
