Instagram explores the ability to create Reels up to 10 minutes long

This feature remains in the testing phase and hasn't been externally rolled out.

The news of the extended Reels duration was brought to light by Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer, who shared screenshots of the internal prototype on X.

If Instagram decides to officially introduce this feature, it could potentially change the way users engage with short-form video content on the platform. By increasing the time limit from three minutes to 10 minutes, Instagram will not only bring its videos in line with TikTok's expansion of 10-minute video lengths, which was introduced in February 2022, but it will also be able to compete with YouTube in the field of short videos.

This potential feature expansion follows a set of updates from the platform, including the recent introduction of features like showcasing fan comments on Stories and integrating music into photo carousels.
