Apple said that app-related ads will appear on the App Store's main "Today" tab and in the "You Might Also Like" section, starting Tuesday, October 25.

The ads will appear in the App Store in all countries except China and will have a blue background and "Ad" icon.

With a Today tab ad, your app can appear prominently on the front page of the App Store — making it some of the first content users see when they begin their App Store visit,

says the App Store ad placement page on Apple's website.

Initially, ads on the App Store were limited to keyword search results and the 'Suggested' section of the Search tab, while the Today tab was reserved for content selected by App Store editors. Now Apple has expanded the number of advertising options in the App Store to four.

In August, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman told that Apple was preparing to expand its advertising business and cut acquisition costs. He believes Apple will spread advertising into Maps, Books and Podcasts apps.
