A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) committee asked Netflix to remove certain content from its streaming platform, amid concerns some of it contradicts the region’s media laws. Otherwise, legal measures will be taken.

The Committee of Electronic Media Officials of the GCC countries published a statement in which it stated the following:

It has recently been noticed that the Netflix platform has broadcast some visual materials and content that violates media broadcasting regulations of countries in the GCC and contradicts Islamic and societal values.

The statement was also issued separately by UAE media and telecommunications regulators and urged Netflix to remove “especially the offending content directed at children.”

The statement concluded saying that legal measures will be taken if Netflix does not remove the content.

In the event that the infringing content continues to be broadcast, the necessary legal measures will be taken.
