The Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia has submitted a bid to host the Winter Asian Games 2029 in NEOM’s TROJENA. Saudi Arabia could become the first country in West Asia to host the winter games.
In the bid, Saudi Arabia expressed its interest in hosting the games and outlined the Saudi Vision 2030 programme, of which TROJENA project is one of the points.
TROJENA is a year-round mountain centre in NEOM, due to be built in 2026. It is projected to boost Saudi Arabia's GDP by $798 million by 2030 and attract 700,000 tourists each year.
Although winter sports are not associated with Saudi Arabia, the Tabuk region, where NEOM is being built, gets snow during the winter months. So, more than 32 Asian countries are expected to compete in winter sports in the 2029 games.
The President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said:
The bid to host the AWG affirms the geographical, environmental diversity and natural wealth that the Kingdom enjoys and is willing to share with our wider Asian Olympic family. We are very excited to welcome all Winter Sports enthusiasts in 2029, aiming to celebrate an incomparable experience in TROJENA.
