Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad Airways has joined the NFT world by launching its NFT collection of 3D aircraft models.

Titled "EY-ZERO1," the series will include ten 3D aircraft models, each showcasing the unique livery of the Etihad Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The 2003 collectibles, which commemorates the company's founding year, will go on sale on July 21.

Tony Douglas, chief executive officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said:

NFTs and other metaverse technologies are revolutionising the digital economy, and we are proud to be one of the first airlines in the world to explore their potential to provide additional utility for our customers.

NFT holders will be immediately enrolled in the airline's Silver Membership Level for one year. Ten NFT holders will win free Etihad tickets. In addition, they will get advance access to NFT's upcoming collections as well as future metaverse products that the airline has planned as part of its Web3 strategy.

The digital collection will be minted on the Polygon blockchain. The company will also partner with Aerial.is to track NFTs emissions. The proceeds will go towards the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel in 2022.
