Kazakh authorities announced they started cooperating with the owners of Telegram, TikTok and other popular international platforms regarding the removal of illegal content, Kazakhstan state news agency KazTAG reported.

The article states that "in general, the representatives of these companies accept proposals for cooperation on the removal of illegal content."

So far, we have established constructive dialogue with the owners of international social networks, such as VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Mail.ru Facebook Instagram, Tiktok, Linkendin, Telegram messenger regarding the removal of illegal content that violates the international law and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. We managed to establish working contacts with regional representatives of Instagram and Facebook,"

reads the report.

In response to these claims, Telegram said that the platform will only delete content that violates the Telegram rules.

We can confirm that Telegram has not entered into any agreements with the Kazakh authorities.

At the end of July, the government of Kazakhstan issued a decree giving the Ministry of Information and Social Development new powers, including to limit the activity of instant messengers and social networks. However, as the authorities of Kazakhstan note, “the administrations of foreign Internet resources, social networks and instant messengers are reluctant to enter into a constructive dialogue with the official entites of the Republic of Kazakhstan due to little business interest in our country.”
