In the upcoming iOS 17 update, Apple is bringing significant improvements to the Photos app on iPhone.

One notable enhancement is the app's ability to recognize pets, expanding its image recognition capabilities beyond just people.

The familiar "People" album in the Photos app is being transformed into the "People and Pets" album. Thanks to advanced image recognition technology, the app can now identify animals, specifically those that hold significance to users based on the number of photos they have of them.

While the album won't display animals that only have one or two photos, if users have multiple images of the same pet, the app will list it in the dedicated pet section. Users can even assign names to their pets and confirm additional photos for more accurate recognition.

This new album provides a convenient way to access all the images of a particular pet in one place. Additionally, memories featuring the pet will appear in the "For You" section, allowing users to relive special moments with their furry friends.

The animal recognition function is highly accurate, even when distinguishing animals with similar coloration. It can successfully distinguish several cats with similar appearance, such as white cats, red cats and tabby cats, without confusion or errors.
