Hungry Baby Alarm

An American father took his observations of his newborn a step further and built a machine-learning 'hungry baby early warning' system.

Normally, babies don't hesitate to tell parents that they are hungry, loudly announcing their needs to the world. But it turns out that crying is a lagging indicator of hunger, and that there are a host of face, head, and hand signs telling the child is getting hungry.

Caleb, an American farther, whose wife has recently given birth to their first child, built an AI system that predicts when the baby gets hungry.

I quickly learnt that babies are little slugs and they eat like every couple hours. Observing my baby I noticed that he wouldn't cry immediately when he is hungry instead there would be a series of signs he would progressively demonstrate indicating that he's getting hungrier and probably would cry for food soon,

Caleb says in the video published on YouTube.

He based his system on Google’s MediaPipe library, using his baby monitor’s camera to track such behaviors as lip smacking, pacifier rejection, fist mouthing, and rooting.

He then put together a system to recognize these cues and assign a weight to them, so now every time the baby is about to start screaming, Caleb gets a text message.
