The first batch of cars, dubbed Al Damani DMV300, is expected to roll out by the end of June. The EV is said to be able to reach at top speed of 160km/h and cover more than 405km on a single charge.

Currently cars are being made at a temporary factory at Dubai Industrial City, a full-fledged facility will be inaugurated in 2024. The foundation stone for the country’s first ever electric vehicle manufacturing facility was laid in March this year.

The existing facility produces 8 to 10 cars a day and 10,000 cars a year. Once the main factory gets ready, it will be capable of producing 50,000 to 70,000 cars per year.

About 25 per cent of the car’s parts are from the local market. Soon we will be able to gradually increase this percentage, says Dr Majida Alazazi, chairwoman of M Glory Holding Group, which manufactures the cars.

The car gets fully charged in 6 to 8 hours, but with in a special fast charge mode one can charge the EV up to 85 per cent in just 30 minutes. The company says, it is currently developing its own charger that can charge a car within 4 hours at home.

Dr Majida Alazazi is the woman behind the first Emirati EV. She is the first Emirati woman with a practical doctorate in business administration in supply chain management and manufacturing from UAE University. She heads various companies and has held positions in government and semi-government companies too
