Discord has clarified its updated age verification policy, stating that most users will not need to submit ID documents or undergo facial scans.

The new system will apply only to a small portion of the user base. For the majority, age will be estimated automatically using internal algorithms. The company says restrictions can often be lifted based on predictive models that analyze account data, device information, activity history, and behavioral patterns within communities.

Only when the system cannot confidently determine a user’s age will additional verification be required, such as a live selfie or government-issued ID.

Access to age-restricted servers and certain safety settings will still require confirmed adult status, The Verge reports.

Users who fail verification or are identified by the system as under 18 will be placed in a restricted mode, limiting access to adult-oriented servers and providing a moderated environment tailored for minors.
