Apple will shift to USB-C but limit data and charging speeds of the non-certified cables

There are rumors that some additional features like high-wattage fast charging and high-speed data transfer will be available only to USB-C accessories certified by Apple through the Made for iPhone (MFi) program.

Any standard USB-C cable will provide only basic features like normal speed charging. So, the same shape does not mean the equal features.

This is the way the company is expected to meet the EU restrictions and give loyal customers the privileges.
