Apple has abandoned plans to integrate Anthropic’s Claude model into Siri and instead finalized a deal with Google.

According to AppleInsider, citing Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Anthropic demanded several billion dollars per year for the integration and insisted on doubling the contract value annually over a three-year period.

Apple’s agreement with Google is reportedly valued at around $1 billion per year — significantly lower than Anthropic’s terms. By comparison, Google currently pays Apple roughly $20 billion annually to remain the default search engine across Apple devices.

Despite the failed deal, Apple continues to use Anthropic’s technology internally, with customized versions of Claude running on its own servers. Apple’s AI strategy also extends beyond Gemini: in markets with specific regulatory requirements, such as China, Siri will rely on local AI models. The company is also maintaining its partnership with OpenAI, whose ChatGPT model powers current Apple Intelligence features. In the future, users are expected to be given a choice of AI models.

Over the longer term, Apple aims to transition fully to its own in-house AI technologies. In late 2025, the company reported record spending on research and development, signaling a push toward proprietary AI software solutions.
