Anthropic introduces ID verification for “a few use cases” in Claude

Anthropic has started requiring identity verification in certain Claude use scenarios, though the company has not specified exactly which features are affected.

The verification is not required for logging into the service, but appears during the use of specific functions.

Some users report being prompted to verify their identity during conversations with Claude. In certain cases, users have also received emails stating that moderation systems flagged activity resembling that of a minor.

To proceed, the service may ask users to submit a selfie with a valid passport from a supported country or a driver’s license. Anthropic notes it may restrict accounts if the user is under 18 or accessing the service from unsupported regions.
