Due to customer complaints about problems with HomeKit, the company has decided to temporarily suspend the option to upgrade to the new architecture.
Apple has released iOS 16.2 to all users, which includes a new Home app architecture. This new feature aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of using HomeKit accessories.
The recent update to the Home app in iOS 16.2 has caused issues for some users, leading to the removal of the option to upgrade to the new architecture. Reports have surfaced of users experiencing problems with their HomeKit accessories, including devices getting stuck in the "updating" or "configuring" status, accessories disappearing from the app, and difficulty sharing homes with other users. Additionally, HomeKit Secure Video has stopped recording for some users.
It is currently unclear when the option to upgrade to the new architecture will be restored or what will happen to users who have already made the upgrade. The new architecture was introduced in the first beta of iOS 16.2, released in October, and required all Apple devices logged into iCloud to be running the latest versions of iOS, macOS, and tvOS in order to upgrade.
It is possible that the feature may return in the future with the release of iOS 16.3, which is currently in beta and expected to be released to the public in the coming months.
