At Apple's recent developer conference, the company announced a partnership with OpenAI to integrate its technology into iPhones and other devices.

Surprisingly, according to a Bloomberg report, no money exchanged hands in this deal. Instead, Apple believes the exposure of OpenAI’s technology to hundreds of millions of users is more valuable than any direct financial payment.

Apple will leverage OpenAI's GPT-4 model to enhance AI capabilities in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. Siri, for instance, will be able to use ChatGPT’s features for tasks such as generating menu ideas, summarizing articles, and finding photos based on descriptions.

Additionally, Apple's writing tools will utilize ChatGPT for story creation, rewriting, and proofreading, all without requiring users to log into or pay for ChatGPT. However, users who opt for a ChatGPT Plus account will gain access to additional features.

OpenAI will benefit financially by getting Apple users to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 per month. If users subscribe through an Apple device, Apple will also receive a commission. Bloomberg suggests that Apple plans to further monetize AI by entering into revenue-sharing agreements with its partners.
