Google engineer Linwei Ding has been charged with stealing more than 500 confidential files containing AI trade secrets for the benefit of Chinese companies in the AI race.
The stolen data includes designs for Google's TPU chips and specifications for GPUs used in data centers. Ding allegedly transferred files to his personal Google Cloud account covertly to evade detection. He also accepted positions at Chinese companies while still employed at Google.
If convicted, Ding faces up to ten years in prison and hefty fines.
