In an effort to expand its wearable business, Apple is exploring innovative ideas such as AI-powered smart glasses and AirPods equipped with cameras.
These concepts, revealed by Mark Gurman in Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, offer a glimpse into Apple's future plans.
The envisioned smart glasses, designed as AirPods alternatives, promise enhanced functionality with additional sensors, AI capabilities, and extended battery life. However, unlike Apple's aspirational Vision Pro AR glasses, these smart glasses are positioned as a more accessible option akin to Meta Ray-Bans. They would incorporate a camera and AI assistant, yet forego high-quality transparent displays for now.
In tandem with smart glasses, Apple is exploring the integration of cameras into its AirPods lineup, known internally as project B798. These next-generation AirPods, similar in size to current models, would incorporate low-resolution cameras coupled with AI assistance to assist users in their daily routines.
Given Meta's success with screen-less smartglasses, Apple's pursuit of similar technology seems logical.
