Instagram now allows global users to download public Reels directly to their devices, according to an announcement by Instagram head Adam Mosseri.
This update expands the previous feature that only allowed saving Reels within the Instagram app for later viewing. Downloaded Reels will feature an Instagram watermark, similar to TikTok, with the account name.
Users can disable downloading for their Reels through account settings, and if a Reel contains licensed audio, the downloaded video will be silent.
Instagram started offering Reels downloads for U.S. users in June and is now extending this capability worldwide.
