The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is expected to be more dynamic than ever, with many digital innovations and, for the first time, all-electric drive.

The new model generation will be offered worldwide with all-electric drive and, depending on the market region, also with plug-in hybrid systems as well as with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines including 48-volt mild hybrid technology.

The switch to all-electric drive has forced BMW designers to make the i5 slightly taller than the outgoing 5 Series to make room for the battery pack, and the Sedan has grown in length and width to keep its elegant proportions.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility come standard. One of the i5's trendiest features is AirConsole, an in-car gaming platform that enables users to play a variety of games using their smartphone as a controller. However, this function is only accessible when the vehicle is stationary and serves as an entertaining way to pass the time during charging stops.

Production of the new BMW 5 Series is set to start later this year, with pricing starting at $67,795 for the eDrive40 and $85,095 for the M60 xDrive, making it the most expensive variant in the range.
